i need help finding a black therapist. aRE THERE ANY other Resources to help me find a black therapist?
“Out of all therapists in the United States, only 4.1% are Black/African-American.”
Let’s start by acknowledging the obvious: Finding a Black therapist or wellness coach—let alone one you truly “vibe” with—can be hard.
Some clients have even remarked that “Finding a therapist feels like a full-time job”.
The harsh reality?
There’s a shortage of Black therapists and the rising demand is higher than the current “supply” of qualified, fully-licensed mental health professionals.
How do we know?
Well, in addition to many client’s personal experiences, the demographic data is almost jarring: Out of all mental health professionals in the US, only 4.1% of therapists today are Black/African-American.
And still…
While there are many (very relevant) reasons for this number, exploring the “why” behind that statistic only gets us so far.
How so?
Because, ultimately, it doesn’t solve the problem of helping potential clients who may be intentionally seeking a Black therapist.
In that vein, we've compiled a list of resources to help you find a Black therapist that we think may help.
